Career Fair and Family Crests

Our week began with a wonderful turnout of parents who agreed to spend 2 hours talking with the students about their careers and jobs.  The third graders traveled in groups of 5 to visit several of the parents, hear about their jobs and interview them about various aspects of their jobs.  The students were very engaged and interested in all that they learned.  The staff and students appreciate the time given to us and the talents that were shared!




The students were busy creating Family Crests this week based on the information they learned from their interviews.  Miss Sprangers had them take the information they collected and create a Crest containing special places and symbols that represented their family.  We first looked at the crest on the flag for the State of Wisconsin learned what the symbols represented.

Students learned that the state motto FORWARD and the state animal the badger is at the top. At the center of the shield the plow represents agriculture, the pick axe and shovel represents mining, the arm and hammer represents mining and the anchor represents navigation.  Students including various symbols to represent the country from where their family immigrated or the state from where  they migrated, the route their family took and other important information. Here are a few examples:





Today is the last day of school before a week off for spring break.  If you are traveling, I wish you safe travels.  When the students return to school on Tuesday, April 10, it will be the first day of the final quarter of school!  We have a lot planned for fourth quarter and I will be putting together backpack mail to update you on our trips and plans.  There are dates for field trips, class plays and performances that you will want for your calendars.


 Other Important Dates and Deadlines 
  • Tuesday, April 10 (the day we get back from Spring Break) is Dream Camp Group B. 
  • Spring Break is April 2 through April 9.  Students return to classes on Tuesday, April 10.
  • Overture Center field trip on Tuesday, April 11
  • Family Fun Night, Friday, April 20.
