Pajamas and Pancakes

What a fun day in the Lily Pad!  Friday was our annual 3rd grade pancake breakfast AND we added to the fun by making it a pajama day, too!  As students entered the classroom, parents busied themselves making piles of pancakes.  There was not shortage of food or fun! Of course This event could not have been possible without our amazing parents!  Thank you to all of you who donated items for our breakfast and for those who were able to donate their time.  You are the BEST!
An amazing group of parents working hard for us!

What a pile of pancakes!

A special "M" pancake for Ms. Mack!!

Throughout the year we will be collecting, analyzing and graphing data.  This week students collected birthday information from our classroom, as well as the other third grade rooms.  We graphed the data and made mathematical statements.  We also created a line plot showing how many drops of water fit on a penny.  We were able to analyze the range of data, the mode and see which results were outliers.

For those of you who haven't been on the second floor to visit the Lily Pad here are some photos of our Best Part of Me display.  This is one of my favorite projects we do during the year.  Enjoy!

One last glimpse into our week for you before I sign off.  We continue to have fun learning in science.  This week we took our learning outside so we could witness a chemical reaction (good old fashioned vinegar and baking soda!) Students saw evidence of the carbon dioxide that resulted from the mixture of an acid with sodium bicarbonate.  We even donned our goggles because as you know...safety first!

As we bid adieu to September and welcome in October, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for lending your fabulous children to me this year.  We have had fun together this first month and I look forward to our remaining time together.
