Ms. Wimmler's Lead Week

Another natural disaster hit the Lily Pad... Volcanos!  Students learned that a volcano is a vent or opening in the earth's crust.  Gases and a hot liquid rock (magma) flow through the opening. They learned that lava is magma that reaches Earth's surface. Pressure builds up in the volcano which ultimately leads to an eruption, which forces out lava, dust, ash, gas and pieces of rock. Below are pictures of the students creating models of volcanos.

We began our Monday morning with a presentation from the group, Multico.  They are a drama group from West High School.  They create different skits that have to do with social issues.  The performances are very engaging and thoughtful.

Arts Night at Marquette!
Tuesday Night was Arts Night at Marquette.  Families joined us in celebrating the students as artists.  There was a gallery display set up for viewing.

At 6:00 the 3d, 4th and 5th graders performed musical numbers.  There were smiles all around!  Here are a few shots from the dress rehearsal.

Here is a quick glimpse into one of the songs they sang.
NOTE: So, I went to take pictures during the concert but realized my battery was being charged back in the classroom! I apologize for the lack of photos from the actual concert.

Our latest writing unit is a poetry unit. Ms. Wimmler had students work on shape and color poems this week.  For each poem students brainstormed ideas and then created a first draft.

Heads up about the Poetry Tea.
The third grade students will be holding a Poetry Tea on the morning of December 20.  It will begin at 9:30 and last for about an hour.  There will be a celebration of authors as well.  Please mark your calendar with this time.  A note will be coming home soon with more details about this lovely event.
