| Ms. Miller and Ms. Mack welcome you to Hollywood! |
The Lily Pad was full of glitz and glamour this week as we celebrated with a Hollywood Party. The room was decked out with stars, signs, streamers and a red carpet to honor the successful completion of out first semester. Our community went all out with dress, glasses and accessories embracing our full hollywood selves. The celebration began with a lunch bunch and the viewing of the Oscar winning Toy Story (the original.) We also enjoyed popcorn and punch with our movie.

The students then participated in a Red Carpet introduction, complete with paparazzi! Once we all made our big entrance on the red carpet we had a dance party. Needless to say, a good time was had by all, students and teachers!

Personal Benchmark for Measurement
This week in math, students determined their own personal benchmark for common measurement units (yards, meters, feet, inches and centimeters.) I shared a memory of my yiayia who would estimate a yard of fabric by using her tip of her finger on her outstretched hand to her nose. We determined that this was a pretty good estimate (at least when I modeled it!)
We are also practicing finding area and perimeter for various polygons.
DreamCamp
Several students from the Lily Pad are participating in Dream Camp, an after school basketball league for Marquette Students. This is an extremely popular program where students learn about the basic skills of basketball, play on a team and have fun! Several of East High School's basketball stars had their beginnings in Dream Camp.
Comic Gallery Walk
The third grade students in the Lily Pad and in the Penguin Place had a lot of fun creating and writing their own comic strip. We worked for 3 weeks learning about the process of writing comics and writing our own strips. On Thursday, students presented their comics to their peers through a gallery walk. WOW, we have some creative and talented 3rd graders!
Awards
One of my favorite times of the school year is when peers create and present awards to their classmates. I am always impressed by the thought and creativity that the kids put into these awards. It is a wonderful time for our community to appreciate and honor all the gifts and talents we have!
Ms. Miller's Last Day
It is with a heavy heart that I write this last post. The students and I have been honored to host an incredibly talented teacher - Ms. Miller! We have been so lucky to be the benefactors of her wisdom, creativity and kind-heartedness. We wish Miss Miller all the best and we tearfully bid her adieu. THANK YOU MISS MILLER! You will be amazing teacher and you will be missed greatly!
