Earth Day in May

Due to the inclement weather in April, third grade students picked a gorgeous day in May, May 7, and worked to beautify the school grounds. You would not believe how much garbage and recyclables we found.  Thanks to all the students.  Our space is now a cleaner and happier place!

Double Bar Graphs
During our whole class math time, students have been examining graphing and surveying.  We began the unit by collecting data from our class, sorting and categorizing it in different ways and then graphing our information. Students discovered that data can be sorted in various ways and that new insights can be gained by each sort.  The students choose a sort,  graphed their data and wrote comparative statements and insights gained about our classroom from the data collected.  We discussed what conclusions we could draw from the data and the conclusions we couldn't draw from our data (due to lack of further clarification.) We culminated this unit with small groups choosing a questions and surveying two classrooms.  They then graphed their findings using a double bar graph.

Urban Adventure
Once again we had a successful Urban Adventure.  The rain held off and all groups were able to explore small pieces of Madison.  We had groups at Babcock Hall, The City County Building, The Overture Center, Camp Randall and Chamberlain Hall, just to name a few of the places!
Here comes the bus!

Babcock Hall

Visiting the Physics Museum

Hey, look who we found as we were adventuring on State Street!

Cooperating and finding our way
Students used their best cooperation and communication skill to complete their adventure in time to be at the Union by 1:10.  OWe all Celebrated our successful trip with an ice cream cone from Babcock Hall!

New Statues outside of the Kohl Center

Ice Cream at the Union!  YAY!

Ms. Mack, you are sooooo funny!
Play Writing Group
With the help of Darby P. (mother of a 5th grader and former Lily Pad parent) a small writing group has created a funny and mixed up play for our class to perform.  It is called, Once Upon a Weirdo. What do Dr. Who, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, and Bullwinkle have in common?  Join us in June and find out!  This group worked hard on their writing and we thank them for all their hard work. All parts are assigned and performances will be held in the Lily Pad beginning June 5 and ending June 11. (There will be 1 performance a day and a complete schedule will be sent out soon!)

The Annual Trip to the Zoo and Mrs. Mack's House!

Friday is our annual trek to the Henry Vilas Zoo and lunch at my house (followed by the WORLD'S BIGGEST ICE CREAM SUNDAE!!!) If you are riding the bus with us, please be at Marquette by 8:50.  We will head to the bus stop at 9:00.  We should arrive at the zoo by 9:45.  If you would prefer to meet us there, just be at the main entrance by 9:40.  This is a highlight for both the students and me!

Enjoy your week and don't forget, no School on Monday due to the Memorial Day Holiday!
