Protests and Adventures and Worms, Oh My!

You may have noticed a group of third graders carrying signs, encouraging our neighbors to Care About the Environment!
As a culminating project to our environmental research, students made signs to persuade others to care about various environmental issue.  We then hit the Marquette Hallway and headed out for a loop around Willy Street.  We got a few honks of encouragement along the way!
We loved getting honks from the cars!

Students learned a lot from their research and continue to make meaningful connections to this new learning.

The beginning of May also brought the departure of Miss Reichelderfer.  She was a valuable teacher in our classroom and is greatly missed.  She will be pursuing a teaching degree in Colorado this fall and leading Wilderness trips in the Wind River Range this summer. Miss R showed compassion with us so we know she will be an amazing teacher. Good luck Miss R!

A big highlight of our last few weeks was our Urban Adventure.  Six small groups set out armed with a clipboard (well, at least most groups had a clipboard!), lunches, backpacks, eagerness and a a sense of cooperation and adventure.  Each group had separate adventures including Babcock Hall, City-County Building, the Public Library, The Kohl Center and Chamberlain Hall.  We saw many amazing places, meet interesting people and learned more about our community!

Our class is beginning a plant unit.  As a part of our studies we built a wormery!  We used Red Wigglers and created four different habitats.  We learned the benefits of worms to plants, soil and our world.

During our plant unit we will be looking at plant needs, growth and propagation, plants benefits to our world and the essential parts of plants and flowers.

Upcoming Events

Friday we will be heading to the Henry Vilas Zoo.  Please send a cold lunch with your child on that day.  Thank you in advance to all the students who have turned in their permission slip.

PLAYS: We have a small group of students working with Ms. Anderson to create a play for our class to perform.  The play should be finished early next week and we will assign parts then. Each student will have a part in the play.  Students will then perform this play several times near the end of the school year.  We will let you know the exact times of our performances.

Enjoy your weekend!
