Loooong Over Due Update

Greetings families and friends!

Happy New Year to you all!  Despite the lack of updates, we have had busy days in the Lily Pad.

Just prior to winter break, our third grade researchers proudly displayed and presented their posters for families.  We had an AMAZING turnout.  Thank you to all who came to support and celebrate the students' hard work.

Students at Marquette also raised over $400 for Caps for the Cure.  What great support for an important cause.  Ms. Winter's sister works in pediatric oncology for the UW and shared some stories and photos of a few of her patients and their families.  It helped us to understand the importance of this mission.

Students eagerly spent their $1.00 coupon from at the school store!  Lots of great supplies from which to choose!

Our latest writing unit is a student favorite....COMICS! Each student created a comic character (with one or two sidekicks) who will star in an upcoming comic.  We began our unit by looking at features of comics and graphic novels and then partners worked together to create dialogue to match a pre-made comic. This next week students will work to complete their own original comic.

It was with great sadness that we bid adieu to Miss Winter.  She has been such an amazing teacher and support in our community.  We will miss her kindness, compassion and presence next semester.  We wish you all the best and know that you will be an amazing teacher!
