Country Gallery Walk

Student Researchers

The third grade students have been busy researching countries of their choice.  They had an overarching question guiding their research: What do I need to know if I want to visit my country?  Students then came up with 3 topics they were interested in learning more about.

Now that the research is complete, students are writing paragraphs to share their knowledge.  These paragraphs will be displayed on a poster.  All posters will be presented at our third grade Country Research Gallery walk.  The presentation will be held on Thursday, January 28 in the Multipurpose room.  It will be held from 1:45 until 2:30.

Math

Students have been working on a couple of concepts during math.  We spent some time prior to winter break studying geometry.  Students sorted and classified various polygons and nonpolygons.

They also learned about M.C. Escher and made tessellations.  A tessellation is a tiling with a repeating pattern.

During the past few weeks students have been studying about area and perimeter.  They created their own Dream Houses and determined the area of each room and then the whole house! Students were very creative with the rooms they would include in their houses.

Reading

Book Reviews - Part I

A large part of our writing goal for third grade is to write organized opinion papers.  As a part of this process the third graders in the Lily Pad will be writing two book reviews.  One is already completed and on display in our LMC.

The other is in the process of being written and we will have these reviews online.  Students will be making an Avatar to represent something from their book and then they will write a book review that the Avatar will read for them!  We are excited to share these with you when they are completed!

Dreams for the World

These past few weeks we have been exploring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and some issues around civil rights.  To kick off our discussions and work, students came up with Dreams they have for the world. These dreams are beautiful and on display outside of our classroom.
