We climbed on a bus and headed down to the market. On their first trip around, students browsed the produce and asked questions of the vendors and farmers. The second trip around was used to spend their money on a variety of items ranging from peppers to spinach to honey sticks to baked goods.
After all the money was spent, we headed over to the Monona Terrace for lunch. What a beautiful day!
The next day at school student brought in their contribution for the class stone soup.
We started with two special stones from Mrs. Mack's garden, added vegetable broth and then added all the wonderful locally grown treats such as spinach, cabbage, peppers, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and more. The soup simmer for several hours and then we feasted at the end of the day!
In other news, we continue our hard work in math and literacy. Students have been working on measuring (both linear and mass) during our math workshop.
This week students began the 2 week WOW (Walk or Wheel) challenge. Students and staff are being encouraged to walk, bike, scooter or board to school. If students take the bus or are driven to school, they can participate in a walking around the block prior to school starting. Mrs. Wilson is leading the walk and on Friday, the whole school began the day with a walk around the block.
Speaking of healthy activities, this Friday is the Marquette Mile. As of today, the weather looks to be perfect for our walk (partly sunny and 56 degrees.) If you would like to join us with this time-honored Marquette tradition, be at school by 1:30 on Friday.
Here are a few photos from Yoga and other happenings in the Lily Pad:
