Hopes and Dreams for Our Year Together

Have we really only been in school for 4 days?  Wow, it seems longer, especially with how quickly our learning community is forming and growing.  We are off to a GREAT start!

We devote a lot of time during the first few weeks of school building a kind and caring learning community. This entails everything from learning basic classroom routines to learning the universal practices of Marquette to learning each others' names.  It is important for everyone to feel included and safe in our classroom.

Last week we also thought about our Hopes and Dreams for the upcoming year.  The students' lists included dreams of becoming stronger in math, reading and writing as well as making new friends and having fun!  We then used these dreams to create guidelines and expectations for our community.  We felt that in order for students to achieve their dreams we needed to have a classroom that cared for each other, that showed respect, was responsible, safe and a place where we had fun!

Students also spent time building their stamina with independent reading.  We will have an hour reading block and in order for students to get the most out of this block they need to become independent with their literacy tasks.  These tasks will include reading to self, reading to someone, listening to reading and working on book group work or writing.  By Friday, students were able to read and stay focused on their book for 20 minutes!! I would say we are well on our way to achieving our hopes and dreams!
We are in for a fun-filled year full of lots of learning,

lots of of cooperating

 And lots of FUN!

Thank you all for signing up for Ready-Set-Go conferences.  I will be in touch regarding volunteering for those of you who wanted to help out regularly in the classroom.  There is a short-term need for a volunteer opportunity that I will email parents about this week.
