Open House Happenings

It was so great to see so many families at our Open House on Tuesday.  The students were excited to share their classroom, their work and their desks!! If you were not able to attend, I will contact you soon about a fall conference sign-up and volunteering possibilities!

I will attach a copy of the volunteer sign-up sheet (as a google document) to our classroom website under the heading "Forms and Docs"  You can sign-up for any available spot directly on the form!

We have had different focuses for math these past few weeks: Time Telling (working on writing and telling time to the nearest minute as well as solving word problems involving elapsed time) and representing and interpreting data sets (using graphs and sorts).

Students who still need more practice with time telling will be working this year to master this skill.  Please help your child with this in everyday situations.  If you need help with resources for this, please let me know!  I do have some links to websites that you may find helpful.  There are also several iPad apps that can help students mastery of time telling.

During our Social Studies time we are helping students see that they are a part of many communities (home and school communities, a neighborhood, their state community, etc.)  We have used Google Earth to tour our place on the planet.  This is a fun Google app and I know that many students have already looked up their house using Google Earth.

MAPS Testing:
We will begin our initial MAPS testing this week.  Wednesday, October 1 we will be testing in Math (8:05), Thursday, October 2 will be the Language Usage test (1:40) and Monday, October 6 will be our Reading test (11:50).

Friday is the Third Grade Pancake Breakfast!  Many of you signed-up to help with this event and volunteered to bring items for our celebration.  I will send information in yellow folders reminding you all of this event.  Just a clarification: the breakfast is help in classrooms, so you should come to the Lily Pad if you are joining us!  Come hungry because there is always PLENTY of food!  We will begin eating around 9:15.

Monday, September 29 is Picture Day at Marquette.   If you want to order pictures, please fill out the order form and send it to school by the 29th. You can visit mylifetouch.com to pay online.  The Picture Day ID code for Marquette Elementary is FS014871Q0.  Send a copy of the online order with your child to give to the photographer.
