Sorry we didn't get all the families. My camera was acting up and some of the pictures did not turn out!
Junior Achievement
Matt Rosenthal, Summit Credit Union, will be a guest teacher in our classroom on Tuesdays in October. He will be teaching us about City Planning, the economics of running a small business and being a newspaper reporter. This week students learned about zoning and created their ideal classroom with Zones (like the computer zone, the reading zone, the pool zone...hmmm sounds like a fun place to learn!)
The Lily Pad T-shirt
Please send in a clean white t-shirt by next Friday, October 14. Students will be getting a Lily Pad t-shirt to wear on our community days!
Here is an example of last year's t-shirt:
Next week is our first official field trip of the year. We will be heading to the farmer's market to check out what produce is in season in the Madison-area during October. Please make sure your child brings in their permission slip by Monday. They will need a cold lunch that day, too. If you are interested in join us for this trip, please let us know!
Madison was under an ocean? It was located near the equator? These were "WOW" moments that students had as they delved into the book, Madison City of Four Lakes, Our City Our Home.
We learned that scientists know this information because of the fossils of trilobites that were left behind. Third grade students are using an engaging and rich text full of information about the city we now call Madison. The text was put together by the MMSD social studies department and teachers in collaboration with a local historian from the state historical society. Over the next few weeks we will learn about the glaciers that covered our land and about the first people who inhabited current day Madison.
