So, You Want to be a Volunteer?

Many of you expressed interest in volunteering in our classroom this year.  There are many ways that we can use your time and talents.  For those of you who would like a regular weekly time, our biggest needs will be during Math block (Mon: 8-9, Tues-Fri from 8:30-9:30) and our Writing Block (Mon: 10:15 - 10:50 and Tues-Thurs from 9:45-10:50).  We could also use help during Science and those times are usually (Tues-Thurs from 1:30 to 2:30.) It is also wonderful if parents offer a lunch bunch opportunity for students.  Some parents have conducted a chess club or other game club during this time while others have used it as a more social time.

We could also use help during other events, such as field trips, and in class events.  We actually have two of those events coming up. The first is the 3rd Grade Pancake Breakfast.  This has been a tradition for the third grade for many years and it is a wonderful classroom community celebration.  We will need parents to help with the cooking of the pancakes, the cleaning up after the pancakes and to donate items.  Something will go home next week detailing specifics.  I will also put a copy of the request on the blog.

One more event to keep in mind: The Marquette Mile! This wonderful event has been held at Marquette for over 20 years and the date for this year's event is Wednesday, October 19 starting at 1:30.  ALL students participate and we need loads of parent helpers!  A flyer went home on Friday detailing the specifics of the Marquette Mile, so please make sure it is returned to school ASAP.  Ways you can help: we need help monitoring the corners on the route and we need parents who are willing to walk with us.  We hope to see many of you on the 19th!  The Marquette Mile is also a major fundraiser for some of our school's bigger field trips.  We are asking that, if possible, you get pledges for your child's participation.

Finally, are you on Facebook? If so, you can "like" Marquette Elementary School to get weekly updates about events happening at Marquette.  Search Marquette Elementary School on your Facebook page today!
